CORFU TOURS
Tours of the beautiful island of Corfu will have its main town as starting point. The good road network makes the most important sites, and some of the most characteristic villages easily accessible, whether you choose to rent a car, or follow an organised tour, or get the local KTEL bus.
ITINERARY 3
Kerkyra – Tzavros – Agios Vassilios – Ano Korakiana – Skripero – Doukades – Liapades – Paleokastritsa – Lakones – Angelokastro.
We take the same route as in Itineraries 1 and 2 up to Tzavro. We now turn left for Aghios Vasilios and Ano Korakiana, in a northwesterly direction. Ano Korakiana (18 kms from Corfu town) is a picturesque village with many churches and a long tradition in choral music.
In the area the largest ceramics factory of the island is to be found. Besides the noteworthy churches of the village (St. James – Aghios lakovos, the Archangel Michael, the Prophet Elijah, St. George, St. Athanasius), with their beautiful frescoes, portable icons and carved icon screens, the folk art collection, housed in the neo-classical building of the Primary School is also worth a visit.
Continuing to the west, we encounter the attractive traditional village of Skripero, with its marvellous view. A detour outside the village brings us to Perasma tou Troumbeta, from where we have a panoramic view of the area. This small road continues northwards to Choroepiskopoi, and southwest-wards to Aleimmatades, Vistona, Makrades and Krini, genuine little Corfiot villages perched on hills, here and there, in an idyllic setting.
After the branch for Troumbeta, the road winds southwestwards towards Doukades, Gardelades and ends up at Liapades, a quiet village off the tourist track. The coastal settlement of Gefyra on Liapades bay is situated directly opposite Paleokastritsa, by a sea that is crystal-clear.
